This story was really not to my taste although I read it to its completion. It started out slowly and I found it difficult to accept as plausible but who am I to judge one person's idea of reality and mine. A young couple on a road trip to an unknown destination take a detour in the pouring rain off of the main highway down a deserted dirt road and the inevitable occurs. Very foreseeable things happen to two very stupid people, and the ending is predictable if strange.
I found lots of typos that cannot be blamed on the author but the grammar, punctuation and sentence structure were different.
Update
I have since discovered that this author is British, hence the differences in grammar, etc. I also re-read the story with that in mind and having familiarized myself with noir by other authors, this writer is spot on. Still not my taste, but I'm strangely drawn to the genre.
It was a nice little story . Short if you just can't sleep and want to kill an hour or waiting at the Drs office. Not great , not terrible. Worth reading.
Odd little story, quite eerie.
This story was suspensful and even though I anticipated what might happen, I was still surprised because I thought it was too awful for the author to actually write it that way. Then, the ending just blew me away. Going Back? Is this guy out of his mind?
For the most part I found this short story a fun quick read but I also found it very predictable. The story was good at helping you visualize what was happening to these people and I liked that very much. Even though I'm 50/50 on this I do still recommend it to everyone.
I love short horror and mystery fiction almost as much as I like full length novels in those genres. It's too bad there isn't more good short horror available.
This story definitely qualifies as "good short horror". I learned about Martin Pond accidentally on the Indie Books Blog ([...]) and I'm glad I did. Looking forward to more from Pond.
Really short, "listen to your instincts" kind of story. The end leaves the possibility of more to come...
